      FAQS

NEET UG counselling: What is it and why is it important?
NEET UG Counselling is the official counselling process for admission to MBBS, BDS, BSc Nursing, and AYUSH courses in all over India. After passing NEET exam, the student has to register for counselling to get medical seat. The counselling process is done to rank and distribute the allotments based on the rank, category and preferences. This process is of paramount importance for final admission, as even a good NEET score is not enough without taking part in counselling.
NEET UG Counselling Process includes how many rounds?
NEET UG Counselling generally comprises of four rounds: Round 1, Round 2, Mop-Up Round and Stray Vacancy Round. MCC has its own counselling process for AIQ, AIIMS, JIPMER and deemed universities and the states have their own counselling for the state quota and private universities. Students get several chances to get a seat or improve their seat, particularly in Mop-Up and Stray Rounds where a lot of seats may be available.
Which documents are needed in the NEET UG Counselling?
The candidate must have NEET UG Admit Card, Score Card, Class 10, 12 certificates, valid photo ID, category certificate (if applicable), domicile certificate (for state quota) and PwD certificate (for PwD applicant). The provisional allotment letter is mandatory seat allotment and during reporting. All paperwork will be in order for easy verification and no rejection during the admissions process.
Does a student have the opportunity to attend both MCC counselling and state counselling?
Yes, students may attend both MCC and state counselling. This gives them the better opportunity of getting a medical seat as MCC includes AIQ, AIIMS, JIPMER and deemed universities and state counselling includes 85% state quota and private colleges. Participating in both provides more options. Once a seat is occupied, however, there are additional rules and strict guidelines to be followed in order to prevent cancellation of the seat.
During the college choice filling process what should students do?
Students should choose the college of their choice, according to their previous year cutoffs, fees, location, hospital facilities and overall academic environment. It is crucial to have a combination of strong, middle and weak schools. Decisions must be made on an individual basis instead of replicating others. Take care in research and guidance to increase the likelihood to obtain a better seat. Expert advice can also be beneficial in creating a smart and strategic option filling list.
Which are the documents needed during the NEET UG Counselling process?
The necessary documents for NEET UG Counselling are the NEET scorecard, admit card, class 10th & 12th mark sheet, transfer certificate, migration certificate, domicile certificate and category certificate (if applicable). Passport size photos and ID proof are also required. Some states may ask for additional documents such as gap certificates or medical fitness certificates. Always carry original documents along with photocopies, just in case there are problems with verification.
What is the difference between state quota counselling and All India Quota (AIQ)?
The state quota counselling fills up 85% of the seats in the government medical colleges available to the state domicile students, and each state has its own reservation policy and fee mechanism. AIQ counselling is organized by MCC in 15% of the seats in India and the student from any state can apply for this counselling. AIQ has more choices and choices are given to the candidates from the state. A lot of students enrol in both to give them a better chance of getting a seat.
May be able to do more than one counselling round?
Yes, the candidates can undergo several rounds of counselling which include Round 1, Round 2, Mop-Up Round, and Stray Vacancy Round. In subsequent counselling rounds, if seats are not assigned to you or you opt out of a seat assigned college, you can still proceed as per the counselling rules of that counselling authority. Once you're taken and complete the admission process, however, you might be limited in your ability to take part in anything else. By planning carefully, missed opportunities can be avoided.
What is the difference between Choice filling and Choice locking?
You are given the freedom to change and add your preferred college or course until the deadline, through Choice Filling. This is where you are able to add, delete or change your options. Choice locking, however, is the last sign of your filled options. After locking, no changes can be made. Please read the list carefully before locking as the allotment will be based on the locked selections.
In case of any delay in the Counselling process of NEET UG then what will be the outcome?
You do not qualify for counselling for that round if you miss the counselling time, but may be still be eligible to other rounds (Round 2 or Mop-Up) as per the authority's rules. You have to go to the early rounds and miss out if you don't, as many seats are taken up early on. Always be aware of official notifications and register as soon as the process begins, to avoid missing deadlines. Sitting in the right seats in the right medical clinic at the right time is the key.
What is Direct Admission in MBBS?
Direct admission in MBBS is the admission of students in private or deemed universities without participating in the regular counselling rounds of NEET. Students can be admitted to the course by paying a higher amount of tuition fee or on donation basis from the students, who have required academic qualifications and passed NEET exam. This is a choice for those who want to get admission quickly, but it is advisable to select reputable colleges so that one is not left with any legal or accreditation problems in the future because of an invalid degree.
Will there be direct admission to MBBS without NEET?
Yes, NEET qualification is compulsory even for direct admission to MBBS. All candidates, even those with management quota/donation seats in private colleges, must pass NEET to gain admission in the country. This rule can't be avoided by colleges. NEET exams will ensure that the candidate has a medical knowledge and aptitude. Direct admission can help you get into your desired college faster, offer flexibility in choosing colleges but NEET score is required for ALL legally recognised MBBS degrees.
Which are the colleges that provide direct admission in MBBS?
Private and deemed universities in India are primarily offering the direct admission in MBBS. There are seats available under management quota, NRI quota and donation quota. The direct admissions in government medical colleges are not accepted by most of the medical colleges, they are fully merit based with NEET counselling. The student should always check with the college whether it's a recognized college by the National Medical Commission (NMC), because it is essential to know that the degree is valid. Making the right choice of colleges is of paramount importance for future practice and postgraduate studies.
How to get direct admission in MBBS?
The first step is to verify NEET eligibility and then reaching out to the college to find out about the seats available in the management quota or NRI quota in the college. The student must fill out academic papers, NEET score and application forms. Tuition may be higher or a donation fee may apply. After approval, candidates enter in the document verification and payment of fees. In contrast to regular counselling rounds, direct admission is much quicker but students should check the legality of the college as this could cause problems regarding the validity of their degree and licensing in the future.
Advantages and disadvantages of direct admission in MBBS?
Direct Admission in MBBS allows students to secure admission to their desired medical college without having to go through exhaustive counseling. But it has its own drawbacks such as the additional cost, risk of unknown college and legal problems if the college isn't approved by the NMC. Students should make a thorough search on the college, check accreditation and get expert advice. If well implemented, direct admission can be a legitimate and safe way to pursue medicine without wasting time in various counselling sessions.
